Live Blog: Pigalinas at The Dickies

We are at an R18 punk gig with F and C bombs flying. A lady and her approximately 10 year old son just came in. I can’t decide if this is terrible or awesome parenting.

Mr Pigalina just asked me to remind him to drink a litre of water before bed as he has work tomorrow. Not me! I am sensible, I also told him LAST YEAR to book the day off.

Had some delicious noodles. Everyone eats noodles at gigs/the pub, right?

Time for dancing!

First Ukulele Lesson

When I signed up to “ukulele for absolute beginners” at the University, I had visions of being the oldest one there and being surrounded by pretentious hipsters. On the contrary, I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived to find I was the youngest there with some of my classmates pushing 70.
We plinked and plonked along, learning four chords and when I got home I proudly arranged my chord charts in my brand new clear file. Now to cut off my fingernails and try to remember to practice. Like the bass, and the lap harp and…

We Saw a Diamond in the Flesh

There are not many 17 year olds who could command the attention of a theatre full of people but Lorde did just that.
Lorde came to Dunedin on her world tour (thank you! As a New Zealander she knows how few people bother to grace the South Island). When we drove past the venue to find a park the queue was literally around the block. In the rain.
She put on a great show from start to finish and the crowd loved her. I can’t recall ever being at a show that caused girls to scream in delight.
It was great to see people of all ages, from those too tiny to see without bring lifted to those with grey hair, enjoying themselves together.
Lorde completely deserves the praise she is getting and long may it continue!

Mamma Mia with Mamma

Went to Mamma Mia tonight with Mummy Pigalina and Aunty Pigalina. It was fantastic, colourful, fun and the whole cast looked like they were having the time of their lives. Mr Pigalina is allergic to musicals so he stayed at home.
Highly recommended – 9 shows left!

…And Had a Really, Really, Really Good Time

I didn’t post a picture yesterday, naughty, as we were busy visiting Wellington!  You’d be forgiven, from the photo below of me at Weta Studios and the previous airport post, that LOTR was the reason for our visit.  In fact, the reason we were there was for the Macklemore and Tinie Tempah concert.

We were among the older people there, certainly the majority of the over 30s were accompanying their children (though when you are older than the main act you have to expect that!). Nevertheless we danced, cried, and had a really, really, really good time.  I am now officially in the Shark Face Gang.  (No photos of the concert sorry, I decided to not be that annoying person with the bright screen this time.  Plenty of others took that mantle for me).

Here I am with either Tom, Bert or William at The Weta Cave.Image.

Pour Some Sugar on P

In a moment of madness at lunchtime, I bought this badass bass guitar for the Pigalina household. A total novice but thanks to Rocksmith I can already play the bass line to Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar on Me” at 96% accuracy. BOOM!

The Worst CDs in the Waikato

Heading home today through Thames we stopped and had a quick look at the shops. This shop owner was desperate to shift the Starlight Express soundtrack, an Extreme album plus many more. ONLY TEN CENTS EACH! Usually we snap up such bargains, but even we could not choose ten. They really were the worst CDs in the Waikato.

Big Day Out 2014

The annual Pigalina pilgrimage to Auckland and The Big Day Out did not disappoint. Sunshine! (actual sunshine, not some obscure band) Snoop Dogg! Pearl Jam! The Lumineers! The 1975! Grouplove! Portugal. The Man (extra points for singing “Dayman” from It’s Always Sunny…) And, the best of the day The Hives. Of you ever get a chance to see The Hives live, do it, you won’t regret it.
